Principal’s Message

Since its foundation in 1977, The Sultan’s School has been a beacon of educational excellence in Oman. Our mission is ambitious and rightly so – we aim to provide a broad and balanced education of the highest quality, reflecting and strengthening Omani and Islamic culture whilst also developing an international perspective in our students.

We are proud to be a bilingual school, and place great emphasis on developing mastery of both Arabic and English. We aim for our students to be eloquent communicators; able to think critically and to be creative.

Leadership at every level is a key component of an education at The Sultan’s School. We aim for every graduate to go out and transform both Oman and the world around them for the better. Student leadership is strongly encouraged, and coupled with a sense of service, which is nurtured at all stages of the school, culminating in the CAS and International Award programmes for older students.

At the heart of our school is the Scholars’ Programme – and through this, we aim to contribute to the benefit of wider society, by providing a world class education to scholars from around the country. The boarding experience of the scholars is unique in terms of its breadth and ambition – we aim to educate future leaders who will benefit from exposure to unparalleled educational opportunities.

As an IB World School we have a huge experience delivering the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma to years 12 and 13; an educational programme that enables students to acquire high level subject knowledge and skills as well as developing academic competencies that will prepare them for university through the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge examination. Students receive a rigorous preparation for the IB Diploma in Years 10 and 11, where they take a wide range of IGCSE examinations. Our students consistently achieve high grades in these qualifications which reflect the high expectations of the school.

We are committed to recruiting the very best hand-picked teachers from both around the world and within Oman, and the school has an excellent reputation for retaining the best staff. The wellbeing of students and staff is a key priority, as is building strong partnerships with parents. The family atmosphere of the school is exemplified by the fact that many of our parents are themselves alumni, and we cherish the warm and close community feel of a place that is our ‘second home’.

I strongly believe that no student should have any door closed to them in terms of opportunities, and that each child is provided with outstanding personalised support and guidance to help them achieve their goals. We believe that every child can achieve success and is capable of the highest levels of performance, and are proud of the achievements of every child, whether academic, creative, or sporting.

We have the honour and responsibility of carrying the name of His Majesty the Sultan. This means that we strive for excellence in all that we do. Every day we earn our esteemed name of The Sultan’s School.

I am very much looking forward to meeting you in person and welcoming you to our unique world-class school.

Yours,

Nigel Fossey, MBE, MA (Oxon), MEd, PGCE, FRSA
